Rebozo — Closing of the Bones Ritual

Bring balance to your body and mind after giving birth

What is a Rebozo?

A rebozo is a traditional garment from Mexico, a long, flat, woven shawl worn by married Mexican women. It serves as a status symbol and is used to keep warm, carry things such as firewood and children, and during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, for massaging and repositioning the baby, as well as for pain relief.

I received training in rebozo use from midwife Louise Dissing in Copenhagen, and I offer rebozo massage before, during, and after childbirth.

Rebozo massage is an excellent way to relax and unwind during pregnancy and provides relief from back and pelvic pain. During childbirth, I use the rebozo to relieve pain and, if necessary, various rebozo techniques can help the baby move further down into the pelvis if it has trouble rotating correctly. Six weeks after giving birth, it is traditional in Mexico for women to receive a postnatal massage. A massage that brings the body back together after childbirth is good for the body. This can also be cathartic for women who have had a C-section.

Rebozo — Closing of the Bones Ritual

A rebozo ritual is much more than a physical ritual. Performed with rebozos (Mexican woven shawls), the ritual honors, celebrates, and nurtures the new mother, closing the period of pregnancy and birth. It helps end a cycle and assists the new mother in transitioning from pregnancy to motherhood, regardless of how many children she has given birth to previously.

After the ritual, the new mother will feel more emotionally and physically balanced and supported. She will also feel more confident and grounded in her new role as a mother.

The ritual can contribute to:

- Better posture after childbirth.

- Better balance in the pelvis and internal organs.

It provides emotional support during the postpartum period, which can be an emotional rollercoaster.

It can help you feel like you're coming home to your own body again after sharing it with your child.

It can reduce postpartum depression.

Help restore a normal menstrual cycle.
